Those outcomes depend on the facts and the forum. This note only describes how a first meeting is used. It is not advice, and sending it back to the office does not make you a client.
Family law is part of Syed Ammar Haider Tipu Shah Advocate High Court’s personal practice. People often arrive with several problems at once: money, a child, a marriage contract, and sometimes a criminal complaint arising from the same household. The first meeting is used to separate those strands, not to promise a result in any of them.
What is useful to say
- Whether a court, a family judge, or another forum is already involved.
- Whether there are children, and their ages in general terms. Full identity documents can wait.
- Whether maintenance, residence, or dower (mahr) is the immediate question.
- Whether anyone’s safety is an urgent concern. If it is, do not rely on a website. Seek local help the same day, and say that urgency when you reach the chamber.
What to hold back at the enquiry stage
Marriage contracts, chat histories, photographs of children, and financial statements are not for the public form. Describe the issue in a few sentences. If a meeting is offered, bring originals or copies then, or send them by the method the chamber names.
If a crime is also alleged
Say so. A family dispute and a criminal allegation can affect each other. The principal practises both criminal and family law, which is a reason to be frank about both at the start, not a reason to assume both will be taken.
The practice page is family law. A request can be made on the appointment page.
